Additional lights installed

Some photos of additional lights installed around the house by Craig the electrician. Very happy with the outcome. Everything line up where it should be. There was one light point supposed to be installed under the eave at the roller door but Craig installed it outside the laundry door instead which I thought that's very thoughtful. We didn't mind the light point to be there it's actually a better spot.

We changed a few light switches to Clipsal Saturn (LED), slimline switches and power points around the main area. We got pendants for the Dining, Kitchen and one bedroom. We still need to get pendant for Living room, Master Suite and other bedrooms.

Updates

Early this morning we had a quick drop by our site to take out the red lid bin before the bin truck comes to dump and also have a look at the completed driveway. T.N Carpentry came shortly after and he's going to work on the concrete slab on the left side at the back. Decking possibly starts on the weekends.

Things are moving pretty quick than expected. Electrical was completed last night after a three whole day. Craig the electrician did a fabulous job with our electrical and very happy with his professionalism and service. Though he could not install the Antenna on the roof as he was not comfortable drilling through the tiles (he has not done previously) but was pleased he did not do what he was not comfortable with. Now that all the additional down lights are in it looks quite bright when turning on the lights. Luckily we have installed the dimmable switches in Master Suite, Media and the Alfresco which we just need to dim when we need the room to be dimmer. We may need to change the down lights in the Media room to a lower wattage as we wanted the room to be dimmed to nearly dark just like the cinema :)

Carpet Call did install the 'correct' carpet on Monday and glad we made the right colour choice on the carpet. We supposed to have a different carpet at the Media but end up making all rooms the same carpet just in case the other carpet doesn't fit in (colour wise).

Timber flooring installation started...

We have been quite busy since we got the handover. Trying to get quotes and organise tradesmen in to do the remaining work around the house so we can move in asap.

Yesterday, we have carpet call delivered the timber flooring and we have our own tradesman - T.N Carpentry - on site to start the installation. We weren't there on site so we asked our tradesman to send a photo of the timber flooring to ensure it is the correct stock and it turns out to be the WRONG stock! The colour was completely different to the sample we received from the store though the same stock code UN0540 written on the box. We called Carpet Call immediately to check with their supplier and it turns out their supplier has packed the incorrect stock into box code UN0540 hence there was a colour discrepancy. O.M.G. So Carpet Call arranged the delivery man to exchange the stock immediately and this got sorted on the same day. Imagine we did not check with our tradesman and wrong stock got installed on the floor. Oh boy!

Today and tomorrow, T.N Carpentry continue on the timber flooring as carpet scheduled to be installed on Monday (by Carpet Call). Hopefully, they will have the correct carpet installed! Monday, we also have an electrician on site to install additional down lights and pendants around the house (due to complete within 3 days) and T.N Carpentry doing our driveway, concrete and landscaping (due to complete within a week hopefully). Will be a big day for all 3 tradesmen.

Incorrect timber flooring that got delivered. Got shocked when saw this. Thought that's how the timber we chose looks like.

Of course the correct timber flooring is on the left and the incorrect timber flooring is on the right. Same timber but different colour

We got the keys!!

So the day we have been long waiting for has come. Looking back it has been an incredible journey from the initial thought of never going to build to a completed brand new home of our own design. Though there was frustration and long delay to finalise the contract at the beginning but the building stage itself was much smoother than our initial thought. Very glad we had a great site supervisor - Andy - who always on top of things, helped us, booked in all great trade men and did an incredible job.

At the handover, there was a trademan on site to install the last air vent at PDR and skylight at Media. The skylight could not be installed at centre of the room because there was a truss running across the middle so it has to be installed at one corner where our future down lights going to be installed. That definitely was not a preferred spot as it will ruin our lighting plan so we asked Andy if the skylight can be left on the roof uninstalled as later we will remove it anyway and without doubt Andy said to the tradesman not to install it. We were glad the skylight wasn't installed at it looks ugly and would cost us extra bucks to remove it.

So Andy went through with us every details of the house from how to take care of kitchen bench top to what we need to be aware when doing things near the termite mesh. So it was not like here is your key, congrats and goodbye. Couple of things was good to know and we could've done the wrong thing if was not told. There were still a few minor things which Andy will need to arrange the trade men back on site to finish off next week. Things such as interior/exterior paint touch up areas that was missed, small render chipped at the piers edge at front, replace the window aluminium corner frame at front that wasn't installed probably and install the missing laminate trim at microwave area.

  1. Install gas bottle - COMPLETED
  2. Andy to advise about the glass splashback - COMPLETED (Will receive a credit for incorrect splashback)
  3. Install exhaust fan at PDR - COMPLETED
  4. Install window corner frame at front - PENDING
  5. Install skylight at Media - N/A
  6. Install missing laminate piece at microwave - PENDING
  7. Paint touch up - PENDING

Things went smooth we handed over our final cheque and received the keys. Plantation Homes gave us a house warming gift and it was a coffee machine which we didn't expect. So now the keys are finally on our hands and it also means we going to start getting our own trade men in to finish off the interior and exterior jobs. Hoping to get these done within a month but fingers crossed.

Final site inspection and counting down 2 days to go!

Our final site inspection was rescheduled to early this morning because there was a miscommunication with the meeting time yesterday and we had to head to work. When we got there at 7.30am today we saw the painters already started their touch up job. They have marked around the house with red and green spot stickers to mark the touch up area. To our amaze, they have marked a lot more than what we could identify though a couple spots was missed which Andy then marked the area for us.

The WIR light point has now moved to the correct position and toilet suite at Ensuite is also installed. With the discrepancy of the splash back colour Andy will meet with Colour Manager on site today to compare the two samples - one with old name one with new name - that she have and will advise us what is going to happen. Apparently, there was a name changed after our colour selection last year hence there was a colour difference. On the good side, Plantation Homes will be sending us a cheque to replace the damaged fence which we going to have it fixed in the coming weekends.

From the outside the temporary fence, bin and the ugly site toilet has been removed. Our weeds at the front also got removed and that going to save us time to remove it on the weekends.

Just a couple of things left tomorrow before the handover on Thursday. Getting very very close now and we are very excited :))
